Is NLP a Cult?
Hello Tom, Carmine here
Isn't it kinda like the pot calling the kettle black?
I look at the fervent way in which some of the people who have
been dialoging with you have been so quick to jump. Perhaps you
are only providing a mirror for their own projections.
I was invited to a party once. I don't care for parties much,
unless they are private parties. Anyway, it was in Davie,
Florida, where they still ride horses up and down the streets.
Since the person who invited me to this party was someone whom I
enjoyed, I accepted the invitation.
The party was being held at a ranch in Western Davie. I had to
drive down this long dark dirt road. It kind of reminded me of
the time I drove from the Erickson Institute in Phoenix Arizona,
over to Las Vegas. I took the back roads, they were very dark.
But in the far off distance I could see that the sky was lit. Yet
I wasn't sure what was making the sky glow like it did.
It was the same here on that dark road in Western Davie.
Although it was pitch black, I could see in the distance that the
sky was glowing. And when I turned the last corner I discovered
what was making all of that light. These fine people who were
throwing the party were all dressed up in white sheets, and were
burning crosses! That must have been the quickest U-turn ever
made by a vehicle with four wheels. These people don't just hate
Hispanics and African Americans, they hate everybody who is
outside of their own set reality, and I was in no mood to pretend
that I wanted to fit in.
You see, hate comes in many forms. And yet hate is born out of
a dislike for the differences that exist between personalities,
and between cultures. Perhaps the way the cult word is being used
here is only a representation of misunderstanding. Again, if it
is different -- it must be bad.
I wouldn't give the matter too much concern. There will always
be them who have yet to come to understand the nature of what
they are attacking. They may just perceive what is different as a
threat. I really am not sure exactly how they perceive what you
have to offer.
But I will say, that after following your posts for a while, I
see that you have been more than civilized inside of every
discussion. When dealing with rigidity head-on, you will only
find more of the same. Perhaps it isn't even worth the time. Ask
for clear and specific dialogue, and you get placed inside of a
cult. Just because you enjoy clarity doesn't mean that you adorn
yourself with white sheets and burn crosses, or any other such
thing. It simply means that you prefer clarity in your
communications.
Bye
Carmine
