Circles Of Excellence
Not so few years back, I was helping, as a coach
for a little league team. They were called the "Red
Devils". The head coach for this team was
the mothers of two of the young players. I don't
know who was more into the game, the two
boys, or their mother. Well, anyway, at the time,
I was playing with different forms of deep trance
identification, or the more , or less, deep trance
by product, "circles of excellence", when I decided
to use this tool as a means of instructing the boys
on this team.
So, one day, and it only took one day, I gathered all
of the players, and setting the frame, I asked each
of the players to recognize internally who was the
best Baseball player, the person who they thought
they would most like to learn from.
Then I had each of them make an imaginary circle
on the grass in front of them, placing in that circle,
a life sized, vivid rich focused moving image of that
imaginary player actually making a certain play.
Then, I set it up so that each boy in turn would be able
to fully leave their own world behind, as they
stepped completely into that moving image of the
imaginary player. Later, after each boy had had
his turn in his perspective circle, I had each boy
again in turn, update all past memories of having
played ball to include the new skills and abilities they had
taken from the circle exercise. Further, I had each
boy in turn bring all of these changes into the future,
making certain that I respected context in this process.
The result were. The team went undefeated in regular
season, in special season, and nationally. I say again,
undefeated!! When the press got a hold of this, they,
in there insightful wisdom, condemned the boys for not
being fair and letting other teams win from time to time.
They also said that the players of the red devils were
far to cocky. And they said this because many of the
kids, taking the tool that I had taught them, learned how
to hit a ball well with either the right, or the left hand.
The next year, the boys got broken up into different
teams, and me, well I had had my experience in little
league.
Now, I am not going to fool you here. Even though the
results I received were spectacular, there is always more
than meets the paragraph---BECAUSE...
Part of doing this well had to do with calibration, checking
to see if my instructions were being carried out to the
letter. Rapport, gaining a level of trust with each boy,
and teaching them to be able to trust themselves well
enough to know that if they left their own realities behind,
while stepping in the one in the circle, they would be
able to return. I didn't just have them step into the circle,
I had them full become who was in that circle until they
experienced certain amnesia for who they really were.
Then I had them step out using an anchor I had set
that ensured a safe return to who they were at the
time. Then later, when I had them update both the
past and the future, I used a different anchor I had set
while they were still in the circle.
The level of sensory acuity necessary for being able
to make the kinds of distinctions, both consciously
and unconsciously, that allowed me to track accurately
the calibration I had set up for these boys, is something
that took me some time to learn. And, after having developed
this acuity, I realized that I could have just used a circle
of excellence to develop it. But, even if I had, I wouldn't
have gotten what I have now, because I would not
have know what to go after in the first place. There
is always more to what is available than we are
aware of that is available, and as we do become
aware of more, there is still more yet to become
aware of. So if you are going to play with
this idea of circles, why not start of by modeling
something you know you cant learn how to do?
Then go out and do it.
The above story is true, archives of the newspaper
articles about the Red Devils can found in Florida libraries.
Either in the Fort Lauderdale sun sentinel, or the fort Lauderdale
news.
Stay well
