It's About Time And Propulsion Mechanisms
Good day,
Sometimes the best choice, is not
the one we are looking at. There is
often a higher wisom to the why's
of not being able to get what we
are wanting to get. Yet, on a different
level, getting there is one thing. But,
the journey, life itself, the paths we
take, are of even greater importance.
The process of what we do, the
experiences that we have along the
way, that is what makes up the body
of life. Having arrived, well that is another
thing too. Me, I want to have the
experience of looking back, and all along
saying to myself, what a life I have lived!!!
What a differnce I have made for myself,
and for those I care about. Then,
I want to look forward once again to the
next adventure. Whatever it is that lies
ahead....
Now, before going into time distortion as the
means of reaching your end, why not
first install a propulsion mechanism that
will propel you with good feelings, letting the
mundane become something enjoyable?
Distorting time is easy, so easy in fact,
that if you don't use the process wisely- Never,
know, you could one day be asking
yourself--"where did my life go?"
You can chunk things down, paying attention
to the details of something, like watching
the clock, second by second, and you can
get days out of hours. And if you begin by
chunking things up in context, then you can
lose track of time quickly, and the next thing
you know............
So, even though you are asking for one
thing, I am going to tease you with another,
because the more you try consciously to
speed time up, you will in fact find yourself
slowing things down, and feeling good.
So for right now, lets play with
something else...
I remember once having to take this test
that I hadn't prepared to take. It was important
to me, but the weeks prior to taking it, while
I should have at least been preparing for it,
I simply lost track of time. Before I knew it,
the test was right in from of my eyes!
Think about the notion of time lines.
If you are in time, time passes much
more quickly, because you are not
thinking about time at all. And if you step
out of time, and are now through time,
time will move much more slowly.
Now, I want you to do this. I want you
to think of three things. First, something
really terrible. In fact, the worst thing you
can possibly think of. Something you would
never choose for yourself. Something that
if you were confronted with it, the first
thing you would do would be to go in the
opposite direction. Now, when you have
thought of it, pretend to make an image
of it, and place that image about two
feet into your past time line. Let yourself
just begin to feel the feelings that are
associated to that imagined image of the
thing you want to move away from.
Now, disassociate from those feelings
and clear you mind. Think of something
that you have a neutral response for.
You don't feel either way about it. It
is just something you are neutral
about.
Now, I want you to think of what for you
is the most desirable set of feelings.
Something, where if you could do it
right now, nothing would stop you. Hmmm,
think about this....you are right in the middle
of this most pleasurable experience. You
can feel the feelings, taste, smell, and
you are right on the edge of this pleasurable
experience, so that when you think about it,
there is no way for you to go, but even
deeper into it. So much so, that this
experience begins building....and building,
right up until.......you add all of those
great sounds in.....and ...you ...
Now, place this representation about two
feet into your future time line. Now, step
out of it, and let yourself come back
fully into that neutral state. You may
want to imagine someone helping you with
this by anchoring these two experiences in
perspective positions on your time line.
That horrible terrible thing about two
feet into your past, and that really great
powerfully pleasurable experience about
two feet into your future.
Now, take the mundane thing, or anything you
want to get done, and place it a few feet in
front of you...make it life size, and see your
self doing what you need to do to get that
done.....and let me explain some......
You see, there are many ways that people
can motivate themselves into getting things
done. There are strategies for simply moving
away from what we don't want. I remember
once when I was in college, there was this
one guy who considered himself a practical
joker. He would do some very stupid, and
not so practical stuff. He would take the air
out of peoples tires. He would would put
various insects in peoples food. He even
though it was funny when he went into
another fraternities club house and poured
out some apple juice, replacing it with urine.
He thought what he was doing was great,
funny, and just couldn't understand why
no one else could see that. Well, one day,
the people from that particular fraternity
decided to revive the ancient art of tarring
and feathering. So here I am looking
out of my window, and here comes this not
so practical joker just high tailing it down the
street. And behind him, in hot pursuit,
was the entire fraternity. Or better yet
this very anger mob of people chasing this
one guy. And this guy is running, all the time
looking back over his shoulder-- when all of
a sudden, running out into the middle of the
street, looking back, he ran right in the
path of a moving car....and, well, it
wasn't very pleasant to say the least.
You see, that is just one way of motivating
one's self. Another, well if you can always
keep your eye on the good feelings of
what you want, you can move toward the
future with pleasure. But, human beings
often get distracted along the way. While
moving away from what you don't want
is not always the best way to get where
you are going, as it doesn't tell what
to do next that is useful, neither is having
to always keep your eye on what you do
want. Either way is work, it's better
to build in something which is automatic.
So, what we are going to do, is to build
in a mechanism by which we use both.
That is, we will build in something that will
not only let you know where it is you do
not want to go, but something which will
also propel you into the direction you
are wanting to be propeled into.
Now, take that life size image that I asked
you to place out in front of you, and see
yourself doing what you need to do
that will get you where you want to go
in that particular context. Now, change
what is happening in that movie until you
see yourself slacking off. You are
not now doing what you need to be doing.
And seeing this, you look at that terrible image
we placed in your past, and begin bringing it
closer as you turn up those terrible feelings.
And as you do, change the image in front
of you so that you do see yourself doing
what needs to be done, and as you do this,
quickly look at the picture of pleasure we
placed in your future, turning it all the way up,
so that as you continue seeing yourself doing
what needs to be done, the pleasurable
feelings continue increasing..more and
more...turn up the sounds that go with
that pleasure, turn up the taste and smell,
and realize. That anytime you find yourself
not doing what you need to do, that
terrible image in your past begins to come
closer, and closer, until, you begin doing
what you need to do, and your body
quickly shifts to those pleasurable
feelings, only this time even more....
and more still yet.
Now, this, like anything else, if you install it
well, will function. But it will function
unconsciously. You wont even have to
think about it at all, and if you can learn
to do this with one thing, you can certainly
learn to do it with another.
When I was young, so very young, there
was this experience I wanted to have
for myself. I used to sit there, and although
I didn't understand, I still understood
perfectly.
I would watch all of these
big people as they went in and out of this
door. They would walk up to it, and touch
this thing, and the door would open. I
remember when I began walking,
I would walk up to that door, but nothing
happened, I couldn't yet reach the thing
they touched, or turned to get it open.
Then one day............
it kind of reminds me of how I had learned
how to tie my shoe laces. It's funny in a
odd, and interesting way, because I
could do so much. Yet, in all of the things
I could do, I simply couldn't tie my
shoe laces. And I tried, and tried...but
to no avail. Then one day, when I wasn't
paying any attention, I bent over, tied
my shoe laces, and stood up. And it
wasn't until about two weeks later,
when my brother said to me-"when did
you LEARN how tie your shoe laces?!?"
It hit me as kind of odd. I hadn't learned.
But yet I was doing it, and to me, it felt
as if I had always been able to do it.
But I guess that is not different from
a great deal of things we do. First we
try and try. Just like when I couldn't
reach that thing on the door to open
it. Then one day, I did reach it, and
it opened, and I fell through to the
other side. And although I felt a world
of accomplishment, that smile on my
face, something far more than just opening
that one door was lurking beneath the
surface of my mind. Because at another
very unconscious level, my brain was
performing calculations. calculations
which would be the basis for my being
able to open other doors. Doors that
were small, big and all in-between.
And I learned then, that I could surprise
myself, but even more, that most of
the surprises that came from any
experience, were the kind that showed
up later, when I least expected them to.
Stay well
Carmine
