Time Disttoorrtttiiiooonnnn
Access? For what purpose? There are some useful distinctions
that I first need to consider before thinking about what it is
you are having reservations about. Also, and on the same hand,
how are you meaning to use the word access? Are you framing your
argument on the basis of using unconscious access as it applies
to the ability to recall raw information, or are you building
your argument around the ability to access or elicit information
that leads toward useful behavioral change? Although the two need
not be mutually exclusive, there is a difference. And my having
in mind what you are wanting to presuppose here with your own use
of language would better help me in gaining clarity into the
point(s) you are wanting to make here.
Putting that aside for a moment, let me offer you this. For me
it's not simply a matter of disagreeing, it's truly about
evolution. In my mind I would hardly consider slowing the clients
thinking down, although that would have been a choice in my
distant past. Instead I think I would rather choose speeding
myself up, therefore having the perception that the client was
moving in slow motion.
I have a friend who works as a professional Drag Racer. He
operated a Top Fuel Nitro Methane Dragster. With all of the
detailed preparation on the side, his job them becomes to pilot
the vehicle from a standing start to over three hundred miles an
hour in only a quarter of a mile, and in under five seconds. From
what I have learned as a result of having been to a few of his
races, is that he operates out of a completely different model of
time. Here he is at the starting line, the light turns green, he
reacts in near perfect timing, and in less than a second he is
already moving at over one hundred miles an hour while
experiencing over five times his body weight (5 G's).
For me the best part of the entire affair is the debriefing.
He is a professional, and in order to remain as such, he has to
continue improving on his performance. After each run, he gets
together with his crew and discusses in absolute detail the
entire run. Some of this discussion includes, but is not limited
to, how the eight thousand horse power engine felt and sounded at
any given point while going down the track. Where during the last
run, exactly, did the car feel loose? Where on the track he
experienced the best traction. Was there any unusual slippage in
the clutching system, and if so, at what point on the track did
the slippage occur.
You see, the point is, for him this five second period of time
takes forever, and at three hundred miles an hour. It usually
takes him about an hour to discuss the details that occurred in a
five second time frame. His state, as he is in the process of
piloting the car down the track, is one of absolute relaxation.
His perception is that the world is moving in slow motion.
As I said before, there really is no need to slow a person's
thinking down when you can speed up your own. And, if the meaning
of your communication is centered around the notion of learning
and change, there is also no need to have a conscious
understanding of the unconscious information being utilized in
the processes that leads toward learning and change. Here the
focus becomes one of utilization. With the question being, how
can I structure my own behavior in a way that can lead toward an
ability to usefully utilize other than conscious information and
processes? But since I am still partially uncertain as to your
intended meaning here, I will forgo any further input.
Be well
